At TOTAL BWF World Championships 2018, Nanjing, China (Grade 1 - Individual Tournaments)

Women's Singles Final
(3) Pusarla V. Sindhu (IND,3) l (7) Carolina Marin (ESP.8) 19-21 10-21

Another World Championships final loss for Sindhu ... Marin repeated her Rio Olympics 2016 performance to win the title against Sindhu ... Marin used her all-attack tactics against Sindhu, which helped her again Saina also ... In the beginning, Sindhu managed to nullify and Marin committed a lot of unforced errors ... Sindhu was leading 15-11 but after that, it was all Marin's show as she won 31 points from next 45 points ... She caught Sindhu at 15-all and took 18-20 lead ... She converted the 2nd game point for winning the first game ... In the second game, Sindhu failed to challenge Marin's attacking game ... She was down 0-5 and 2-11 at the break, so after that, it was an impossible task for Sindhu to crawl back ... Marin convincingly won the second game for her third World Championship ... Still, a really good World Championship for Sindhu as she becomes most successful Indian player to win four medals in this marque tournament, 2 silvers and 2 bronzes.

It's hard to fathom this loss because till the mid-interval in the first game, Sindhu was comfortably ahead by 4 points -> 15-11, if i am not mistaken. Then the turn in fortune was truly inexplicable. Indian Badminton in general & Sindhu in particular, needs a sports psychologist at the earliest. The sooner Gopichand & Co. accept this, the better it will be for players & passionate fans like me because loss in the final is becoming a trend for Sindhu which will dent her confidence severely. The player of her class & talent & her passionate fans surely deserve better & hiring a sports psychologist is something which Indian Badminton can easily afford & in case if it does not help, it is surely not going to hurt in any way. For Sindhu's sake, she truly deserves to be a world champion someday & hiring a sports psychologist is surely too small a price to pay to achieve this big dream!!!

Totally agree with you ... I surprised to see Gopi also failed to motivate or asked to use Plan B, when Marin shifted to full attacking mode ... Need of psychologist is long due and also after losing Indonesian singles coach Mulyo Handoyo in December 2017 also hampered our performance in the singles.
