[F] (1) Leander Paes (IND)/ Lukas Dlouhy (CZE) bt Scott Lipsky (USA)/ David Martin (USA) 64 76(4)

Lee and Lukas grabbed this opportunity to win their first title as team ... And now I think we will definetly see many more titles from this duo.

Match was lot more closer than our pair thought ... Lee & Lukas won 71 pts to 60 pts to Scott & David ... Our pair converted 2 break-points from 4 chances and other hand saved 3 break-points from 4 break-points they faced.

Leander Paes - "It’s always special stepping on the court with Lukas because not only does he complement my style of playing but he’s also teaching me things. It’s interesting that, after playing for so many years, to have a partner who’s also teaching me a few things is really beautiful."

On winning 40 titles, Paes said: "It is special and I think that one of the things I like to do is see my partner win a lot more. This is the challenge for me because I know if he’s winning I’m winning too. I’m trying to step up Lukas, this is the fifth one that he’s won, so now I’m trying to step up his wins because then mine will go up automatically."

Lukas Dlouhy - "It’s a great feeling to win the whole thing and I think if we keep working like this we can win more tournaments. I think we played high-level tennis and when they came back in the second set we just stepped it up and we just focused on the basic things. I hope that we can keep it like this and we can enjoy the rest of the year and we are looking forward to playing the Masters Series events."

India l Romania 1-4

Rubber 4 -
Prakash Amritraj (IND,222) vs Victor Hanescu (ROU,67) 62 63 61

Hanescu grabbed this match and tie for Romania in 100 mins ... In this match Hanescu faced 1 bp in 6th game of 2nd set ... I think thats only once Hanescu gave chance to opponent in this Davis cup tie ... So with this dominating performance from Hanescu Romania won this tie easily to move into World group.

Rubber 5 -
Somdev Devvarman (IND,242) l Victor Crivoi (ROU,158) 64 57 36

Crivoi fought back into this match after down 1-5 in the first set ... He saved 4 set points but lost set 6-4 ... But that turnaround in first set helped him ahead in this match ... In seond set Somi broke Crivoi's serve in 5th game then he was serving for that match at 5-4 ... But Crivoi had other ideas, he broke Somi's serve twice to win set 7-5 ... Crivoi continued his upperhand in third set winning next 5 games ... Crivoi won consecutive 8 games, after that Somi hold twice and broke Crivoi's serve once ... Bu that wasn't enough and Crivoi won set 6-3 ... This match was going on for 2 hrs 33 min, 105 pts to Crovoi and 99 to Somi.

For me our performance in this tie was average ... 1-4 loss was majority people were expecting but Somi lost chance of making 2-3 and importnatly scoring his first Davis cup win.

This tie turned into very hard learning curve for Somi ... He reached early for preparation, played well in couple of tournaments and so we all were having expectations from him as this tie was on clay ... But playing under Davis cup pressure in away tie is total different proposition altogether without patriot crowd support ... I m only hoping that Somi learn from this tie and improve ... Somi need to improve his middle court game, he learn to dominate and kill ball from there ... So now we r back to Asia-Oceania zone.

World Group - Play-offs 2008, Bucharest, Romania (Red clay)

Here is link for live score from Davis Cup site -
LIVE SCORE

India vs Romania 0-2

Rubber 1 -
Prakash Amritraj (IND,222) l Victor Crivoi (ROU,158) 57 75 26 26

Yesterday Davis cup site made a mistake publishing Adrian Cruciat name in the first singles instead of Crivoi.

In first set, Kash was up with break and leading 5-2 but from their he lost control over the match ... From here Victor Crivoi dominated this set and won first set winning 5 games breaking Kash's serve twice.

In second set, Victor broke Kash's serve in 3rd game but Kash had different plan ... From 3-5 down he also broke Victor's serve twice to won 2nd set 7-5.

But in third set Crivoi blown off Kash's challenge around 20 odd minutes after winning 4 consecutive games after 2-2.

Crivoi didn't loose grip from the match after winning third set ... He broke Kash's serve in 3rd and 7th game ... While serving for the match he saved 3 break points and converted first match point.

Some match stats -
Kash won 105 pts and Crivoi won 130 pts ... Kash made 51 UFEs and Crivoi did only 34 ... Crivoi breaks Kash's serve 7 times in 14 chances other hand Kash managed to break 3 times in 12 opportuniites.

So now Somi need to do unbelievable in his 2nd Davis Cup tie.

Rubber 2 -
Somdev Devvarman (IND,242) l Victor Hanescu (ROU,67) 36 16 06

This match score gave true picture of the match ... From 3-3 in first set Victor Hanescu won 15 of next 16 games and won 56 pts to 17 pts ... In first set Victor Hanescu lost only 1 pt on his serve, that’s also unforced error from him ... Somdev couldn't produce fight in this 83 mins match ... As Victor Hanescu didn't face single break point on his serve.

This was very hard lesson for Somi from Victor Hanescu on Somi's favorite surface, clay ... Victor Hanescu dominated proceeding and make sure that Somi kept running all over the court in this match.

Frankly I was expecting much better performance from Somi but now 0-2 down we don't have realistic chance to move in to World group as we need to win next 3 matches.

Prakash Amritraj (IND,222) vs Victor Hanescu (ROU,67)

Rubber 5 -
Somdev Devvarman (IND,242) vs Victor Crivoi (ROU,158)

This is really unpleasant schedule for us ... I was hoping Buji playing first match on day 1 and day 3 without much pressure but that didn't happen ... Still considering Buji's huge experience of playing college tennis on higher level with such type of crunch situation can be handy ... Agree Davis cup is altogether different cup of tea and lot more pressurised situation but I feel Buji can handle this pressure.

What I surprised most seeing alternate Victor Crivoi's name already in the schedule against Buji ... How come Romanians already knows that Adrian Cruciat will be injured or exhausted .. Is this permitted to declare alternate player in schedule itself? I don't remember seeing this before.

That also means Romanian must be planning fresh legs against Buji in the final rubber ... And I also hope that creates doubt in Adrian Cruciat's mind against Prakash in the first rubber as his Captain is not keeping faith on him for complete tie.
