Our account opened with a bronze in shooting under 10m Air Rifle mixed team event ... Apurvi Chandela and Ravi Kumar won a bronze behind Chinese Taipei and China shooters ... They qualified for the final on the 2nd place with 835.3 points ... Our 16 yrs. old young shooter, Manu Bhaker, failed to win a medal in her first Asian games event ... She participated with Abhishek Verma in 10m Air Pistol mixed team event ... They finished on the 6th position with 759 pts. and missed the final by whisker.
In swimming, Srihari Nataraj clocked a new national record with 55.86sec to finish 8/28 and makes to the finals ... He became the first Indian swimmer to reach 100m backstroke and finished on the 7th position in the final ... In Men's 200m Butterfly, Sajan Prakash clocked the 3rd best timing in the heat, 1:58.12sec to qualify for the finals ... Sajan finished on the 5th position in the final with a new national record timing of 1:57.75sec.
Overall disappointing performance by us in freestyle wrestling ... Only Bajrang Punia won a gold medal for India in 65 kg category .. Pawan Kumar lost lopsidedly in a bronze medal match against Mongolian wrestler Orgodol ... Our other all wrestlers lost early and failed to get chance for repechage ... Sushil Kumar lost in the first match against Bahrain wrestler, Adam Batirov, 5-3 ... He was way slower in his bout ... In the last Asian games, we won 1 gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze in the freestyle wrestling.
Bajrang Punia showed his technical superiority in his matches ... He won all his matches till semi-final after taking 10 points lead ... In the final, his Japanese opponent tried fight back but Bajrang showed his defensive skill and maintained lead for completing a win.
