Manoj Kumar became the first Indian boxer to qualify for 2012 London Olympics ... He defeated Chinese Qing Hu in closely fought bout ... Manoj Kumar started slowly and Hu won the first round 6-3 ... In the second round both boxers were matched eachother and score was 7-all but still in favor of Chinese 13-10 ... In the final round Manoj was good in attacking and defending, he turned table on Hu winning this round 7-2 and match 17-15 ... Next he is facing British boxer Thomas Lee Stalker, who is silver medalist in European championship and was Gold medalist at CWG in 60 kg category.
Devendro Singh Laishram also booked his ticket for 2012 London Olympics in his first senior level international tournament ... He defeated current American Continental champion Ecuadorean Carlos Quipo winning all 3 rounds ... Devendro started positively to won the first round 5-2 ... In the second round Carlos fought back but still Devendro managed to win it 6-5 to lead 11-7 ... In the final round also Devendro kept attacking and won this round 7-5 ...Next in quarters he is facing 2nd seed Korean Jong Hoon Shin ... Jong Hoon Shin was bronze medalist in 2009 Milan World Chmpionship ... This year he won Asian Confederation Boxing Championships beating Indian Amandeep Singh.
Jai Bhagwan qualified for London Olympics beating Irish boxer David Joyce in very entertaining match ... Both boxers played attacking boxing ... Jai started positively and won the first round 13-8 ... David Joyce fought back in the second round and Jai played more cautiously in this round which cost him as Joyce won this round 10-7 but kept lead 20-18 ... The third round turned out to be dramatic and tense, as both Jai and Joyce were warned twice by the referee ... Jai was penalised for clinching too much and Joyce was docked 4 points for using his fist to hit Jai on the back of his head ... This round was ended on 12-all ... So first round 5 pts lead helped Jai to win this match by 2 pts, 32-30 ... Next he is facing Kazakh boxer Gani Zhailauov.
Vikas Krishan Yadav became 4th Indian boxer to qualify for 2012 London Olympics ... He defeated Turkish boxer Onder Sipal very methodically ... Vikas started well to won the first round 5-3 ... In the second round he take control from beginning to won it 5-2 and leading 10-5 ... And Vikas kept his upper-hand in the bout to won the third round 4-2 ... With that he won this bout comfortably in the end, 14-7 ... Next Vikas is facing Moldovan boxer Vasilii Belous.
Australian 5th seed Damien Duncan Hooper proved too strong for Dinesh Kumar ... Australian boxer won all 3 rounds to complete convincing victory ... After cautious start Hooper won the first round 4-2 ... From the second round Hooper take control of the bout winning 6-3 and he won the third round more easily, 6-2, to complete victory.
