Beijing Olympics 2008
Day 7 (15th August 2008)

Boxing -
Men's Bantam (54kg) Round of 16

Akhil Kumar (IND) bt Sergey Vodopyanov (RUS) 9-9 (Judges decided winner on who hit more body punches and Akhil declared winner.)

Quarter-Final -
Akhil Kumar (IND) vs Veaceslav Gojan (Maldova)

Russian leading 2-1 after First round.
Russian leading 6-4 after Second round.
Russian leading 8-7 after Third round. (Akhil reduced lead to 1 pt)
And 9-9 after Four rounds. (Judges declared winner on body count.)

Huge upset victory by Akhil over World Champion Russian Sergey Vodopyanov ... This truly shows Akhil's steely nerves and character ... After 2 rounds he was down by 2 points but still he didn't lose hope and kept playing with his unorthodox style to level points score after 4 rounds ... And then Judges rightly gave their decision to declared Akhil as a winner ... So with this win Akhil is in quarter-final and giving us big hope of another medal.

Tennis -
Men's Doubles Quarter-final

(7) Leander Paes (IND)/ Mahesh Bhupathi (IND) l (4) Roger Federer (SUI)/ Stanislas Wawrinka (SUI) 26 46

Mahesh and Lee both played very tentative tennis ... Both weren't looking sure about their shot-making, ie Lee's volleys and Hesh's backhands ... This loss was due to less practice matches against top-noth pairs ... Their decision of playing less matches backfired on them ... Today Swiss pair played like they wanted to win medal and that fire was missing from our pair.

Sailing -
Finn - Race 08

24 Nachhatar Singh JOHAL (IND) 24 pts

Nachhatar Singh Johal wasn't in to contention of top 10 finish from first day, so as expectedly he missed top 10 finish and final in Finn.
