Leander Paes has announced that 2020 will be his farewell year on the ATP World Tour ... He will be participating in the selected tournaments with the hope of representing India in the Tokyo Olympic and the Davis Cup for the last time ... He is playing for 30 yrs. on the tour and gave some memorable moments to the fans ... On the personal note, he won 8 doubles and 10 mixed doubles Grand Slam titles ... In that, he completed career Grand Slam in the men's doubles and the mixed doubles ... His high point playing for the country was, winning a bronze medal for India in singles in the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games ... He competed in consecutive Olympics from 1992 to 2016, making him the first Indian and only tennis player to compete at seven Olympic Games ... He also holds the record for the most Davis Cup doubles win with 44 victories ... One of my favorite Lee's Davis Cup memory is, his performance in the away tie against France at Frejus in 1993 ... Lee defeated Henri Leconte and Arnaud Boetsch on clay and helped India to win this tie 3-2 ... There are mixed emotions but definitely, this will be a fun-filled farewell year ... Thank you Lee for everything!

A once in a lifetime player - He certainly will be missed. For me, India's greatest sportsperson ever. Those magic hands @ the net, the sheer heart to compete against the best in a global game inspite of all the handicaps- 1. Lack of Physical strength vis a vis the Europeans & Americans. 2. Lack of financial support @ the beginning of his career & last but not the least to come up trumps in a global sport from a third world country without any support from the federation is a stuff dreams are made of- Absolute Legendary stuff. If ever there was one person other than Dhyanchand who deserved the Bharat Ratna, it is Leander Paes. That David vs Goliath contest when he faced Goran Ivansevic & Wayne Ferrera among many others, when he helped India beat France in France with Ramesh Krishnan. Those magic moments with Mahesh Bhupathi, the chest bumps, The magical 1999 created by the Indian Express, those Grand Slams he won with the Czechs- Martin Damn, Radek Stepanek, the mixed doubles titles with Navratilova & Hingis, Asian Games medals with Hesh & Sania inspite of all their differences, coming back from 2 sets & a break down against Serbia with Rohan in Bangalore, that last rubber win against Pakistan in Davis Cup in Mumbai & the best part is I am sure the above list is still incomplete. While tears roll down my eyes as I write this, I can only stand up, applaud & say, "Thank You Lee".......

Thanks Jay... But as I said I missed out to list out a few more of his incredible achievements- The unforgettable bronze in singles competition @ the Olympic Games @ Atlanta in 1996 & that famous win over Pistol Pete in USA among many others. Thanks Lee once again... Jay by any chance can you help me with Lee's email id if possible? Just wanted to thank him by writing to him. Thanks Jay...
