At Rabobank Hockey World Cup 2014, Netherlands
For 9th Position
India bt Korea 3-0 (1-0)
Goal Scorers - Akashdeep Singh (IND) 6' and 49', Rupinder Pal Singh (IND) PS 43'
Indians outplay Koreans with their skillful and attacking hockey in this match to show who is the boss in Asia ... Importantly our defense played with discipline in this match ... Indians take early lead when SV Sunil gave pin point pass to Akashdeep in the D after keeping Korean defense standing with his pace ... We kept one goal advantage till half-time due to Sreejesh'd excellent goal keeping ... Indian extended their lead when Rupinder earned penalty stroke on penalty corner and converted it ... Then Gurbaj was sit outside for 10 mins due to dangerous tackling ... At that time Koreans tried hard and were putting extra pressure on Indians ... Indians responded well with solid defending ... Indians take advantage and scored goal on counter-attack through Akashdeep.
Though this time we end up on 9th position, one place below from last world cup, it is heartening to see improvement on overall game ... Our coach Terry Walsh definitely improve our game ... We r defending well, our tackling is improving and looking less clumsy, ball release is improving, unnecessary hitting crosses in D is improving though we need improvement in finishers ... Also improvement in defending inside D but still we r conceding more penalty corners ... Overall discipline is coming in our players game ... Thanks to Walsh.
