In the fifth round Anand played safe against Istratescu for draw ... In the last match of group Adams and Anand played an interesting game in which surely Anand was simply winning as he was up a piece but however his technique was faulty and Adams escaped with a draw.
So Anand and Adama qualified for quarterfinal from Group A ... Anand having dangerous quarter-final opponent, Vladimir Kramnik, who finished on 2nd position from Group B.
