Indian women defeated South Africa in well contested match to finished on 9th place ... This was their best finish in 32 yrs after 7th place finish in 1978 World Cup.

South Africans started offensively and scored first goal in 3rd minutes but Indians fight back after Rani Rampal scored 2 goals in 1 minute ... South African levled before half-time, so both teams were 2-all at half-time ... Second half also started like first half, both teams were attacking from the start ... Anjum gave lead and then Handa gave crucial 4-2 lead ... Soth African scored a goal through Coetzee but Indians defended well in last 12 minutes to scored good win.

Host Argentina won World Cup beating defending champion Netherlands 3-1 ... England completed their best finish beating Germany 2-0 in Bronze medal match.

India's Rani Rampal was voted best young player at the Women's Hockey World Cup, who scored 7 goals in the tournament ... She finished second-highest goal scorer behind Dutch penalty corner specialist Maartje Paumen, who scored 12 goals in the tournament.
