Davis Cup 2009,

ITF taken quick decision on Australia's decision and awarded the Asia/Oceania Zone Group I third round tie to India.

The ITF regrets and respectfully disagrees with the decision of Tennis Australia to default its upcoming Davis Cup by BNP Paribas Asia/Oceania Zone Group I third round tie against India, scheduled to be played in Chennai on 8-10 May.

By virtue of its decision not to send a team to compete against India, Australia has forfeited the tie. India is declared the winner and will advance to the Davis Cup World Group Play-offs, scheduled for 18-20 September. The draw for the Play-off Round will be held on 12 May at the ITF Offices in Roehampton.

Doubles Final
(WC) Srirambalaji Narayanaswamy (IND)/ Ashutosh Singh (IND) bt (4) Yuichi Ito (JPN)/ Raven Klaasen (RSA) 76(1) 76(7)

Yuki scored straight sets victory against Vishnu to lift his maiden title on Mens tour ... With this he becomes youngest ever Indian player at 16 years & 10 months to win futures tournament bettered Sanam Singh's record of 17 yrs & 11 months ... Match was close and in the beginning Yuki was playing very patchy game ... He broke Vishnu's serve in 2nd game to lead 2-0 in the first set but in next game he served 4 double faults to gifted his own service game to Vishnu ... Vishnu take crucial lead breaking Yuki's serve in 11th game and then he was serving for the match ... But in my view turning point of the match came at 30-15 in 12th game ... Yuki's forehand crosscourt shot called out by linsman but chair umpire Nitin Kannamwar overruled his decision and gave point to Yuki ... Vishnu tried to raise objection but Nitin Kannamwar sticked to his decision, so instead of facing 2 set points Yuki was 30-all ... Then he dominated game and won tie-break giving only 1 point to Vishnu ... From second set Vishnu was looking tired, mostly due to his 2 hrs 45 mins semi-final against top-seed ... Yuki broke his serve in 3rd game and then sustained the lead until end ... Yuki was cramping in the last game but he converted 3rd match point to win first futures title.

Impressed with Yuki's ability of playing important points ... He is having good solid groundstrokes and effective serve ... Definitely improvement in his game from last time I watched his match.

In doubles Indian wild-card pair Ashutosh and Srirambalaji won title beating 4th seed Japanese pair in 2 tie-breaks.

Davis Cup 2009,

Tennis Australia says it will not allow its team to travel to India for a scheduled Davis Cup match in May due to security concerns.

Tennis Australia take this decision after ITF (The International Tennis Federation) on Friday rejected Australia's appeal against playing in India and upheld the decision to hold the match in Chennai as originally planned from May 8-10 ... The winner of the Asia-Oceania Group 1 third-round match will advance to the World Group playoffs in September.

Australians raising unnecessary controversy and I insist ITF should take strict action against them which they mentioned, ban from Davis Cup competition for a year and fined US $100,000 if it refuses to play its tie with India in Chennai.

Here is match report of quarter-final -
The tie of the day in the boys quaterfinals was that between second seeds India and unseeded New Zealand. India won the opening singles but then Jaden Grinter levelled the tie with a gutsy three set win over the Indian number one. The doubles looked to be all India when they led by a set and a break but New Zealand came storming back to take the second set in a tiebreaker and stretch out to a 4-2 lead in the third. The momentum turned and India then won four straight games, each peppered with a series of deuces, to claim victory and a place at the finals.

Another disastrous and inconsistent performance by Chetan to lose in the first round against lowly ranked Japanese.

Saina also failed to overcome defending champion Yanjiao Jiang's challenge in 40 mins match ... Saian started well winning first game but after that Jiang didn't give her any chance ... Aditi lost (mostly due to lack of match practice) but scoreline was shocking.

Diju and Jwala started with very easy victory against Kazak qualifiers.

Rajeev also started well with straight sets victory.

[R1] (7) Diju Valiyaveetil (IND)/ Jwala Gutta (IND) vs (Q) Mikhail Zakharov (KAZ)/ Karina Suleyeva (KAZ)

Again tough draw for Saina ... :-) This time she is facing WR #14 chinese opponent Yanjiao Jiang, who is defending champion of this tournament which she won last year ... Jiang is in good nick as she reached semis in All England Open and then she was finalist at Swiss Open Super Series ... Saina need to be careful in this match.

Aditi having easy first round match but she is playing just second tournament after long injury break so not sure about her match fitness ... Our men's having good draw, hopefully they will take advantage of it ... After top-seed's withdrawal from this tournament Chetan is highest seeded player in top-draw, good opportunity for him to improve his ranking.

And as per my expectation Harsh and Oudsema scored straight sets victory against 2nd seed Ratiwatanas to move into quarters ... Som in company of his college mate Huey moved into maindraw with another easy victory in doubles final qualifying.
