Quarter Finals
India l The Netherlands 1-2 (1-1)
Goal Scorers - Akashdeep Singh (IND) 12' PC and Thierry Brinkman (NED) 15', Mink van der Weerden (NED) 50' PC

India's wait for the World Cup medal continues after 43 yrs ... They lost in a close match against the Dutch side ... The Indians started well scoring the 1st goal in the 12th minute but the Dutch side immediately responded scoring in 2 minutes to equalized before the end of the first quarter ... After that, both teams failed to score in the next two quarters ... The Dutch side was looking more superior but the Indians managed to keep the pressure on them ... In the 4th quarter, the Dutch side took a lead after the penalty corner conversion in the 50th minute ... Immediately Amit Rohidas made an unnecessary infringement on the Dutch player after hitting with a stick on his hand ... He received the yellow card so the Indians played last 10 mins with only 10 players ... We tried hard and earned penalty corner and saved one without a goalkeeper on the field ... But over players failed to score despite multiple circle penetrations and the Dutch defended well for completing the victory.

An absolutely pathetic performance to say the least. If this is how our team performs in the World cup on Indian soil, then God bless Indian Hockey! Shreejesh was looking like a schoolboy goalkeeper wen he conceded the first goal. Even a 80% fit Rupinder would have been better than a 100% fit Amit Rohidas...In the hindsight, India should have acted smart by finishing second in the group when we consider that Belgium who finished second in our group has made it to the Semi Finals because they had a much easier route of facing Argentina in the quarters & now England in the semis! Had India finished second in our group, who knows India could have well made it to the summit clash on the 16th of December. If only "ifs & buts" could make our day!!! Indian Hockey looked on track with Roelant Oltmans at the helm but ever since his ouster, it has taken 2 steps back. Indian Hockey needs a foreign coach & there is absolutely no two ways about it!!!

Agree with your assessment but the finishing second was also had a difficult route ... The Belgian side managed to beat the Germans, but I doubt we had a fire-power to beat the Germans ... With some inept selection of players in the team, I was expecting an early exit.
