Anirban Lahiri score nerveless four under round to secure his first European title in style ... This result is amazing considering, Anirban maiden European Tour title arrives just three months after coming through the Qualifying School, and is all the more remarkable given he was outside the top 20 at the halfway stage ... On third round he scored sensational ten under foe entering into top-5 ... Still Anirban was five shots behind leader Austrian Wiesberger ... On the final round Anirban had different idea as he scored four birdies in first 5 holes to put pressure on leader Wiesberger ... Wiesberger kept lead but struggled on the green ... At the 17th hole Anirban rolled in a 40 foot putt from off the green to scored birdie and the outright lead for the first time ... He kept his nerve and scored PAR dispite hitting in sand for memorable victory.
This win will help him hugely as he will moves to his personal best world ranking of around 40 (only second Indian inside top-50 after Jeev Milkha Singh) ... Secures his European card for next 2 years ... With this win The Masters invite definitely coming up ... Also with ranking inside top-5- means he will be getting into most of Majors and WGC tournaments.
Anirban Lahiri - “I don’t think it’s sunk in just yet. But I’m pretty sure when it hits home it’s going to be a really happy moment for me. I think I’ve got a bad habit of making it hard for myself, but I’m happy I got over the line, as ugly as it was towards the end. The Masters is definitely one of my targets. I don’t know how far I’ll move up, but I’m pretty confident now with this win I should have a pretty good chance."
