A young Elavenil Valarivan won the 10m Air Rifle Women’s Final at the 2019 ISSF World Cup in Rio de Janeiro, this was her first senior World Cup medal ... Anjum Moudgil also was in the final, but she finished on the 6th position ... Elavenil qualified for the final on the 4th position with 629.4 pts and Anjum qualified on the 4th position with 629.1 pts ... Our current WR #1 Apurvi Chandela failed to qualify for the final, as she finished on the 11th position with 627.7 pts.

Sanjeev Rajput won a silver in the Men’s 50m Rifle 3 position in Rio and wins an Olympic quota ... He showed consistent shooting in the qualifying and in the final to win silver ... With this, he becomes the 8th Indian and 1st in this event to win Olympic quota in the shooting ... In the qualifying, he qualified on the 2nd position with 1180 pts.

In 10m Air Pistol Men event, we already have a full quota of 2 ... But again Abhishek Verma and Saurabh Chaudhary showed dominance ... Before this World Cup, Saurabh won 2 golds and Abhishek won 1 ... Abhishek won his 2nd gold medal of the year from the four World Cup ... Abhishek won a yellow medal with 244.2 pts and Saurabh struggled with his shooting but still managed to win bronze with 221.9 pts ... Medvedev wasn't playing his best tennis but Prajnesh failed to take advantage of it as he hampered by twisted ankle ... Prajnesh started aggressively but lost his serve in the 1st game, he fought back to break Medvedev in the 4th game for 2-all ... At that time, Prajnesh ankle rolled and that affected his mobility on the court ... Medvedev again broke him and kept that advantage for winning the first set ... In the second set also, Medvedev broke him in the 1st game and again in the 3rd game ... He broke Prajnesh in the 7th game for winning the set comfortably ... The third set also went on the same script, but it would be a great experience for Prajnesh of playing against the top-5 player in the grand slam on the show court.

Federer again broke him in the 4th game to lead 5-0 ... Sumit saved 6 set points in the 7th game and had a breakpoint also, but Federer converted the 7th setpoint for 1 set-all ... Federer broke Sumit in the 1st game to lead 2-0 ... He again broke Sumit in the 5th game to lead 4-1 ... Federer kept the advantage for winning the third set ... Federer again broke Sumit in the 1st game for 1-0, but Sumit kept fighting and broke Federer in the 4th game for 2-all ... In the 5th game, Sumit played lose service game and Federer again broke him to lead 3-2 ... After that, both players held their respective service game till 5-4 ... Sumit showed a fighting spirit in this nervy match ... There were a lot of ups and downs in this match, in the first set at 5-all, Sumit had 4 break-points on Menezes's serve but he failed to convert ... In the next service game, while serving for staying in the set, he lost his serve from 40-15 to lose the set ... In the second set, Sumit was 0-3 down as Menezes broke him in the 2nd game ... Sumit fought back to 3-all and from 3-4 he won next 7 games ... He won the second set 6-4 and took a 4-0 lead in the third set ... Menezes tried fightback to make it 4-3, but Sumit held his service game and broke Menezes when he was serving for staying in the match for a memorable win ... He becomes a youngest Indian male player in the last 25 yrs to make the US Open main-draw, with age of 22 yrs and a week old ... Before that, Leander qualified in 1994 when he was 21 yrs old ... Sumit draws against THE Roger Federer, but it will be a terrific experience to play against a legend which Sumit can cherish in his lifetime.

Deepak Punia Becomes India's 1st Junior Wrestling World Champion in 18 Years ... The last Indians to emerge gold medallist at the junior world championship were Ramesh Kumar (69 kg) and Palwinder Singh Cheema (130 kg) who stood atop the podium in 2001.
Deepak claimed a gold medal with a win over Russia's Alik Shebzukhov ... The score was tied 2-2 at the end of the 86kg men's freestyle match but the Indian was declared champion because he had scored the last point ... Deepak Punia will also represent India at the upcoming Senior World Championship in Kazakhstan, as he won the trials.

In the 92kg, Viky also scored a close win against Mongolia's Batmagnai Eenkhtuvshin 4-3 to claim bronze.

Our u-23 boys lost in the final against higher-ranked Taipei team ... Still, a creditable performance by our boys as they reached their first Asian Championship final and also they secure a place in the upcoming FIVB Men's u-23 championships.
In the final, the Taipei team was better on the court with the execution of their game plan ... Our players tried fightback after winning the third set but the Taipei players re-took control and completed win after winning the fourth set.
