At the World Race Walking Cup, Saransk, Russia

Our steeple chase runner Sudha Singh has qualified for the 2012 London Games, breaking her own 3,000m steeple chase national record in the VIII Meeting Iberoamericano de Atletismo ... Sudha Singh qualified with a timing of 9:47.70 secs to break her national record of 9:49.25 secs set at the Shanghai Diamond League last month ... Her timing was better than the London Olympics 'B' standard timing of 9:48.00.

Om Prakash Karhana shattered Shakti Singh's 12-year-old national record in shot put on his way to achieving London Olympics qualification 'A' standard ... Om Prakash tossed the iron ball to 20.69m and broke the previous national record of 20.42m held by Shakti Singh since 2000 ... Om Prakash throws read as 20.09, 20.60, foul, 20.40, 20.63, 20.69, showing consistency and 3 throws over national record.

At the World Race Walking Cup, Saransk, Russia

K. T. Irfan became the third Indian walker to qualify for the London Olympic Games on Saturday when he timed 1:22:09 to finish 19th in the World Race Walking Cup ... The ‘A' standard in the 20km walk event for the Olympics is 1:22:30 ... Gurmeet Singh and Baljinder Singh had earlier attained the ‘A' standard.

Basanta Bahadur Rana with time 4:02:13 (32nd) and Sandeep Kumar with time 4:03:45 (36th) completed the 'B' qualification standard for the London Olympics in the 50km walk ... The B standard is 4:09:00 and 'A' standard 3:59:00 ... But that also means only one of these two can make the trip to London, unless of course both better the 'A' standard.

At Asian 20 km Race Walking championships 2012, Nomi City, Japan

Baljinder Singh has earned a quota for the London Olympics after finishing 5th in the Asian 20 km Race Walking championships with a timing of 1:22:12 ... The `A` qualification standard for the London Olympics was 1:22:30 ... So he became second athlete to qualify for 20 km race walking with national record-holder Gurmeet Singh, who has already attained the Olympic qualification with a timing of 1:22:05 in Dublin last year.

In same event Gurmeet Singh timed a commendable 1:21:31 for the silver medal ... Gurmeet led race until the last kilometre and barely missed the gold in just 9 seconds to China`s Zhu Chundong, 1:21:22.

At Mumbai Marathon 2012, India

India's Ram Singh Yadav qualified for the London Olympics with a time of 2:16:59 which was below the IAAF ‘B' grade qualifying time, 2:18:00 ... In 2008 he missed qualifying time by 3 seconds after Mumbai Marathon organizers goofed up with the final timing.

Ram Singh Yadav finished the first in Indians and overall on 12th place ... Another Indian Elam Singh, who represents India in 3000m steeplechase, finished second in his first marathon and missed out on the qualification mark by 27 seconds.
