Badminton News

Kashyap becomes our top men's shuttler and Ajay become #2 behind him ... Both showed more consistent performance from others to deserve to be 1 and 2 ... Guru was giving very good results in first half of 2010 to breaking into top-50 but last few months he struggled ... Hopefully he will be making more promising performance in 2011.


In ladies Saina IS our only player, who can compete in top field ... But PV Sindhu is giving us hope to join Saina in next couple of years.

After Super Series title win at Hong Kong Saina managed to regain #2 position, so she will be end up on #2 in world ranking behind Xin Wang.

At $250K Hong Kong Open Super Series 2010, Wanchai

SAINA DID IT!!! WON HONG KONG SUPER SERIES BEATING WANG!!!
Singles Final
(2) Saina Nehwal (IND,4) bt (3) Shixian Wang (CHN,5) 15-21 21-16 21-17

Huge victory for her ... Saina extended her 100% finals record to 5 in year 2010 ... Shixian was in good form, last week also she reached final of Super Series tournament after winning Asian Games badminton gold ... But today Saina had different plan and with this win Saina broke big mind barrier of beating Wangs and that's also in title match ... This is Saina's first win over Wang and also 3rd Super Series title of year 2010 ... She won big cheque of $19,750.

Very close match ... Both played very high quality game ... Impressed with Saina the way she take this challenge, where with Chinese opponent she was againsr most of the vocal crowd and little biased officials.

Saina was struggling in the first game ... Shixian take control of the game from 15-13 to won it ... But from second game Saina showed improvement in her game and matched shot by shot with Shixian ... Played awesome/ amazing drop shots, cross courts, half smashes, smashes and down the line ... In last 2 games she controlled from the start and Shixian was doing caching game but Saina kept her focus to win it.

Saina won her first 2 round matches convincingly, she won both matches inside half-hour.

Kashyap also started with upset win but faced tough second round against WR #4 Chinese player Jin Chen ... Though match ended in straight games still Kashyap played well in this 45 mins long match.

Superb win by Ajay to reached his first Super Series quarter-final ... After winning tight first game Ajay lost second game easily but in decider he take control of the game from 7-all to complete his victory in 52 mins ... Next he is facing WR #8 Thai Boonsak Ponsana, who lost against Kashyap in the last week.

By the way Arjun climb to his career best singles ranking, #40.

After winning first game comfortably, Boonsak Ponsana tried fight back in second game but Kashyap kept his cool on important points to win match in straight games ... Next match against Chinese WR #26 Pengyu Du is tricky one but he need to win these matches to enter into top-15 BWF ranking.

Excellent start for our players ... From start in this match Anand Pawar was falling behind and needed to catch his Danish opponent ... After losing first game Anand was down 13-16 in second game but from 15-17 he won 6 points on a row to make it 1 game all ... In decider Anand was up 2-0 before Vittinghus won next 10 points from 3-all to take 3-13 lead ... Instead of giving up Anand kept fighting to make it 14-15 but Vittinghus managed to keep lead ... At last Anand caught with him at 19-all from 17-19 ... Vittinghus saved a match point on 20-19 then Anand saved match point at 20-21 and then Anand converted 2nd match point to complete amazing comeback victory in 57 mins.

In other match Kashyap continued with his good form from CWG 2010 ... He won his match in straight games ... In second game he saved a game point before winning match in 38 mins.

Ajay retired from his match after playing a single point ... Hopefully no serious injury scare ... Chetan lost his match after winning first game against similar ranked player.

[QF] (9) Diju V (IND)/ Jwala Gutta (IND) l (12) Sung Hyun Ko (KOR)/ Jung Eun Ha (KOR) 16-21 19-21

Diju and Jwala lost in straight games against Koreans ... They defeated same Korean opponents at Singapore Super Series but failed to repeat that performance here ... In latest MXD world ranking Koreans r #7th ranked and our pair is #12 though this week Indian pair was higher seeds than Koreans.

Shixian didn't give any chance to Saina ... In first game after 6-all she won next 8 points and that almost finished Saina's challenge in the match ... Shixian played excellent attacking game without giving Saina any chance of counter-attacking ... She outplayed Saina to scored convincing win in 34 mins.

Now real test begin for Saina against Chinese Wangs, in quarters she is facing WR #4 Shixian Wang.

Diju and Jwala moved into quarterfinals of World Championships after hard fought comeback win over Singaporean pair ... Next they r facing 12th seed Korean pair who scored upset win over 5th seed Danish pair.

[R3] (2) Saina Nehwal (IND,2) vs (13) Ella Diehl (RUS,16)

In first game after 9-all Saina kept couple of points lead over Chen ... But Chen saved couple of game points to make it 20-all and then win next two points to won first game ... In second game Saina was leading 12-8 before Chen made 12-all but after that Saina next 5 points to take control of the game and won it losing only 3 points after that ... In third game Sania played like champion taking control from the start ... She was 7-0 up when Chen won her first point of the game ... Saina kept pressure on Chen to won this game in 11 mins to moved into third round of World Championship.
