At Rio Olympics 2016, Brazil

Recently the qualification standards for Rio Olympics Athletics are lowered by IAAF ... Our three athletes get benefited from it ... In the Men's discus throw the mark was reduced from 66M to 65M, so Vikas Gowda qualified for Rio Olympics as he has thrown over 65M earlier this year after Olympics qualification began.

Also Sapna in Women's 20km race walk and Nitendra Singh Rawat in Men's marathon are benefited, who are also qualify for Rio Olympics ... So now our total 15 athletes are qualify for Rio Olympics.

At the 55th National Open Athletics Championships, Kolkata, India

Manpreet Kaur threw the shot put to a distance of 17.96m on her second attempt in the final, which was enough to achieve the quota place for the Rio Games, qualification mark was 17.80m. And in doing so, she rewrote a long-standing national record, set by Harbans Kaur way back in 1997.

19. Sudha Singh (IND) 2:35:35 PB

In Women's marathon, O. P. Jaisha finishes creditable 18th place with new national record of 2:34:43 bettering her own record of 2:37:29 ... Sudha Singh also timed her personal best of 2:35:35 for creditable 19th place ... With this timing Sudha Singh also qualify for 2016 Rio Olympics, her timing was well below qualifying mark of 2:42:00, O. P. Jaisha already qualified for Rio Olympics.

Men's Discuss Throw
9. Vikas Gowda (IND) 62.24m

Poor throw from Vikas Gowda in the final of the Men's Discuss Throw ... He was out of the final after first 3 throws.

In Men's 50km walk, Sandeep Kumar finishes at 26th place with his season best timing of 3:57:03 while Manish Singh finishes at 27th place with his personal best timing of 3:57:11 ... Their timing is below 2016 Rio Olympics qualifying mark of 4:03:00, so two more quota places are earned by our athletes for Rio Olympics.

Our women 4x400m relay team posted a season best 3:29:08s but finished lowly 14th out of the 16 teams.

Vikas Gowda qualify for the finals of the Men's Discuss Throw in 7th position ... He qualified with 63.86m throw ... Frankly below par performance as I m hoping for 65m throw from him.

Women's 3000m Steeplechase
8 Lalita Babar (IND) 9.29.64

Lalita Babar finishes creditable 8th place in the final ... Almost till 2000m she was leading but couldn't continue in the end ... But really good experience for Lalita on this big stage which is good for her development.

Tintu Luka runs her season best timing of 2.00.95 sec in Women's 800m, but that was way down for qualifying for semi-final but still with this timing she qualify for 2016 Rio Olympics.

Lalita Babar become the first Indian athlete ever to qualify for the final of a track and field event in the World Championships ... In the 3000m steeplechase event Lalita clocked a national record of 9:27.86s, 7+ secs better than previous record ... She finished 4th in her heat and overall 8th in three heats to qualify for the final.

In 20km walk, Baljinder Singh thought he finished on his personal best timing 1:21:44 and respectable 12th position but at that time the referees signaled other athlete that he completed race but Baljinder thought they were telling him ... So he stopped but he needed to complete one more round in the stadium for completing so his result displayed did not finish ... Our other two walkers finished race below 30 in the standings.

In Men's shot put event, Inderjeet Singh qualified for the final with 20.47m throw ... Qualification mark was 20.65m but only three throwers managed to cross that mark ... Inderjeet Singh qualified for the final in 8th position of 12 finalists ... He also become only third Indian athlete, who qualify for the final ... But in the final he failed to repeat similar or better throw and finishes on 11th position with only 19.52m throw.

Women's 3,000m Steeple Chase
Gold - Lalita Babar (IND) 9 minutes, 34.13s (NR)
Silver - Li Zenzhu (CHN) 9:41.43s
Bronze - Zhang Xinyan (CHN) 9:46.82s

Lalita Babar wins Gold medal with her personal best timing and with that she also qualified for 2016 Rio Olympics as her effort went past the qualifying standard of 9:45.00.

India finishes on fourth position in medal tally at Asian Athletics Championships with four Gold, five Silver and four Bronze medals.

At Federation Cup athletics meet 2015, Mangaluru

Shot putter Inderjeet Singh became the first Indian to qualify for the Olympics in track and field events by winning the men's shot put gold with a stunning effort of 20.65m ... The Olympic qualification period commenced only yesterday and is 20.50m for the men's shot put.

So far only the walkers -Khushbir Kaur, Manish Rawat, Sandeep Kumar - and OP Jaisha in women's marathon have made the grade for the Rio Olympics after the qualification period for the road races began on January 1.

At International Discuss Throw tournament 2015, San Diego, USA

Vikas Gowda qualified for the World Athletics Championships in Beijing, winning the men's discus throw in a competition at the Olympic training centre in San Diego, USA. Vikas threw his seasons best of 65.25m to qualify, bettering the qualification mark of 65m.

At the IAAF Race Walking Challenge 2015, Rio Maior, Portugal

Three Indian walkers - Khushbir Kaur, Manish Rawat and Sandeep Kumar - qualified for next year's Rio Olympics after creditable performances.

National women's 20km walk record holder Khushbir Kaur clocked 1:33:58, better than Rio 2016 qualification time of 1:35, though she finished 13th in the race.

In the men's 20km race walk, Manish Rawat logged a personal best performance to finish in top 10 with a timing of 1:22:50, well above Rio Games qualification time of 1:24.

National 50km race walk record holder Sandeep Kumar also qualified for Rio Games with a 14th-place finish in 1:23:32.
