Young Javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra creates history, becomes first Indian world champion in athletics ... Neeraj sets World U-20 and senior national records with throw of 86.48m that wins gold at U-20 Worlds ... The 18-year-old broke the old mark of 84.69 metres held by Latvian Zigismunds Sirmais by nearly two metres.

In Men's 200m - Dharanbir Singh 20:45s (Qualification mark - 20:50s)

In Men's 800m - Jinson Johnson 1:45:98s (Qualification mark - 1:46:00s)

In the 3rd Indian Grand Prix our three more players qualify for Rio ... Also Indian men's 4x400 team qualifies for Rio clocking 3:00:91s joining Indian women's 4x400 team.
Frankly I am frightened by our players SO MUCH improved performance in Olympic year by our athletes ... For example 17.30m jump by Ranjit Maheshwari is a new national record and is the third best mark in the world this year behind 2 Americans ... But we know in Olympics he will be sick or fouled out like last time ... I really don't know what WADA is doing ... Sick and sucks!

Nirmala Sheoran has become the first Indian to qualify for Women’s 400 m at Rio Olympics ... Nirmala Sheoran has clocked a brilliant 51:48 seconds in Women’s 400 metres, she has thus beaten the qualification mark of 52:20 seconds for Rio by a fair margin.

India had earned only 1 quota place in Men's archery through Mangal Singh Champia ... After the trials held today, in-form Atanu Das is selected to represent India in Men's individual archery.

Muhammed Anas clocked 45.40s for national record in 400m at Bydgoszcz ... So Muhammed Anas also made the Olympic qualification standard which was 45.40s itself.

Long jumper Ankit Sharma has created national record as he jumped 8.14m, 8.17m and 8.19m in three consecutive jumps and qualified for Rio, where qualification mark was 8.15m.

In Women's 200M, Srabni Nanda qualify for Rio Olympics when she clocked 23.07s ... For Rio qualification mark was 23.20s.

Indian sprinter Dutee Chand became the 99th Indian sportsperson to secure a place in the Rio Olympics after meeting the qualification mark in the 100 metres heat in Almaty, Kazakhstan on Saturday. She will represent India in the Women's 100 meter event ... Required to better the 11.32s mark to book an Olympic berth, Dutee Chand clocked 11.30s to secure a berth in the 2016 Rio Summer Olympics.

At 2016 Federation Cup National Athletics Championships, New Delhi, India

Sudha Singh also qualified for the Rio Games while winning silver in women's 3000m steeplechase Lalita Babar, who has already qualified for the Olympics in both the 3000m steeplechase and marathon, clocked 9:27.09 for setting new national mark in 3000m steeplechase ... Sudha came up with a timing of 9:31.86 and easily bettered the Rio Games qualification standard of 9:45.00.
