At $442.5K US Men's Clay Court Championships, Houston, USA (Red clay)
[R2] (LL) Somdev Devvarman (IND,116) l (4) Lleyton Hewitt (AUS,27) 61 06 67(2)
Somdev started well against Hewitt, breaking him in 4th and 6th game to won first set easily ... Somi take full advantage of rustiness of Hewitt, who had hip surgery and was playing his first match after his loss at Australian Open against Federer ... But after losing first set Hewitt played like man on the mission ... In second set Somi needed to wait until 4th game to won his first point of this set ... Hewitt broke Somi thrice and in that 2 times on luv to gave bageled ... Somi won only 2 points in this set of 26 points, simply shows how much Hewitt dominated .. In third set Somi played better tennis but first break was taken by Hewitt when he broke Somi in 6th game to take lead 2-4 .. But Somi broke back when Hewitt was serving for the match at 5-3 to bring back set on the serve, Hewitt was 2 points away from the win at 30-all ... And created huge opportunity breaking Hewitt's serve in 11th game and needed to hold his serve but Hewitt used all his experience to broke back to take set in tie-break ... Interestingly Somi was also only 2 points away from the win at 30-all in 12th game ... In tie-break Somi started with mini-break but then Hewitt broke 3 times to captured tie-break and match.
Somi had opportunities to won this match but he failed to take it ... But still very creditable by Somi to fight back after got bageled in second set ... Its learning curve for Somi.
