[Q2] (20) Somdev DevVarman (IND, 120) l (3) Illya Marchenko (UKR,85) 46 36

Somdev started well breaking Illya's serve in 3rd game ... But Illya came back strongly breaking Somi's serve in 6th and 8th games ... Then Somi broke Illya's serve when he was serving for the set in 9th game ... Again Illya broke Somi's serve in 10th game to win first set ... In second set also Somi started well breaking Illya's serve in 1st game but again Illya broke Somi's serve in 4nd and 6th games to take control of the match ... And then hold his serve to won second set and match.

Somi is struggling with his serve but still good fighting performance from him to match talented Illya Marchenko.

Tough loss for Rupesh ... Nathan was on court with proper gameplan against Rupesh, from start he kept Rupesh in long rallies ... Though in start Rupesh was winning many points but he was looking tired in late of first set ... And I feel that was turning point as from their Rupesh was always doing catching game ... Most of the games were going into duece with long rallies and Nathan take control slowly.

Rupesh game looks improved ... Nice backhand slice, powerful forehand, double handed backhand and decent court coverage ... He still need to work on his service, volleys and importantly fitness for long matches.

Expected loss but I think Youzhny showed Somi what lacks him to become top 50 ... But it was brutal lesson for Somi ... Hopefully Somi takes this as learning curve and keep working on improving on missing aspects of his game.

In 5th rubber, Rohan was looking better player on the court than Gabashvili but he couldn't manage to take important break ... He won first set in tie-break with single mini-break ... In second set also Rohan served well ... He take very important break in 5th game of second set to won set match in 1 hour and 20 minutes ... In this match Rohan served superbly and only faced one break point which he saved.

Heart-breaking result but I think more heart-breaking performance by our team.

Another poor performance by Indians to lose against English team ... Sandeep Singh stupidy while defending continued in this match also and our forwards mainly Prabhjot Singh were struggling to intercept passes.

Need improvement in overall game ... But importantly in defence and also in forward ... Lets hope they play better in next few games to finish on 5/6th position.

Shocking defeat of Pakistan, who was leading 1-0 in half-time ... But were down 4-1 in second half before they scored 2 goals.

Against Spain we played lot better than Aussies but again silly mistakes like not marking opponent properly, making unnecessary infringement inside circle to give penalty corners to opponents, instead of quick passing do unnecessary dribbling, fail to intercept or collect passes and poor penalty corner variations.

Deepak Thakur missed numerous chances ... Sandeep Singh did regular stupid things like slapping ball hard at opponent area where no Indian was collect to the pass.

[R1] (WC) Ramit Tandon (IND,347) vs (4) Mohamed Ali Anwar Reda (EGY,27)

As expected very strong field for Women tournament ... As many top-10 players r participating including top 5 players like WR #1 Nicol David, #3 Jenny Duncalf and #4 Rachael Grinham ... Wild card given to India's #1 and local girl Joshna Chinappa, but she is having tough first round match against WR #10 Australian Kasey Brown.

In Men tournament, Saurav Ghosal is 5th seed and will face an qualifier in first round ... But surprisingly wild card given to very lowly ranked Ramit Tandon and he is facing 4th seed Egyptian Mohamed Ali Anwar Reda in first round.

Pleasantly surprised to see another Indian girl in top 80 and couple of more on verge of entering into top-100 ... In final qualifying round Dipika and Anaka having tough matches against top-25 players.

Good win by Gaurav Nandrajog over higher ranked Malaysian ... So in all final qualifying matches at least 1 Indian is playing so big opportunity for Indians to grab all 4 qualifying places.

Goal Scored - Vikram Pillay (IND) 35', Rajpal Singh (IND) 53' and Liam De Young (AUS) 2', Glenn Turner (AUS) 9' PC & 43', Desmond Abbot (AUS) 26', Luke Doerner (AUS) 42' PC

Forgettable performance by Indians in their second match against Australia ... In this match our defense was in total disarray, we were doing stupid mistakes to gave penalty corners to Australians ... Also our goal-keeper Adrian D'Souza had a bad day ... He should at least stop couple goals from Australian but he also had his moments in the match with couple of good savings and also saved penalty stroke by Jaime Dwyer in late of the match.

Today our players did poor marking, played self-centric game, stopping and tapping were poor, no co-ordination between defense or forwards, had poor game plan to counter-attack Australian strategy, poor defending and poor goal-keeping ... Hoping lot more improvement in next important match against Spain.

FIH panel reduced Shivendra Singh's ban to 2 matches from 3, still very harsh penalty for unintentional foul where nobody hurt badly.

In surprise move by tournament Director Australian Ken Read declared three World Cup matches ban on Indian striker Shivendra Singh for "deliberately" hit Fareed Ahmed by lifting his stick in the 39th minute of their match against Pakistan ... But surprisingly field umpires or Pakistani team management did not make any complaint about it ... Read said Shivendra was guilty of breaching FIH Code of Conduct and found guilty of level 2 offense -- physical assault without serious injury ... Read take this decision after viewing video tape of the match ... Indians filed an appeal and depositing the appeal fees of Euro 600 ... If ban remain then Shivendra will miss India's matches against Australia, Spain and against England ... It will be a big blow for India as Shivendra is our main striker.
